As a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Paid Intern, you may assist with the following:
Edit and maintain geospatial data, complete analysis using standard methods and tools, and produce cartographic mapping products.
Provide technical user support and work actively to bring consistency to all geospatial data.
Work with a diverse group of resource specialist, planners, and managers.
Assist higher level specialists and other employees in project development.
Participate in development and/or deployment of standardized training activities.
Download, convert and upload GIS data available from internal and external sources to make them usable.
Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy; identifying and correcting errors or omissions in the data.
Catalog and inventory GIS data, including metadata creation.
Input, update and maintain GIS databases, including backups and also maintaining linkages to other databases.
Perform GIS spatial analyses.
Create map layouts and views, and generate maps and reports.
Develop new applications and train others in the use of these applications.
Create maps and graphs, using GIS software and related equipment.
Meet with users to define data needs, project requirements, required outputs, or to develop applications.
Conduct Research to locate and obtain existing databases.
Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data from staff and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS.
Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
Design and update database, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations.
Enter new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.
Analyze geographic relationships among varying types of data.
Prepare metadata and other documentation.
Operate and maintain GIS system hardware, software, plotter, digitizer, color printer, and video camera.
Move, copy, delete, and add files, drawings, and maps to output reports in hard copy or electronic transfer.
Present information to users and answer questions.
Retrieve stored maps.
U.S. Citizenship Required

Compensation and Work Schedule
$9.59 to $10.46 per hour
Occasional travel may be an option
Flexible work schedule may be permissible
All travel expenses, including meals, lodging and incidentals are provided by the company while the intern is in official travel status
