The Modeler will support the DWM hydraulic modeling group in answering Requests for Information (RFIs) from internal and external sources including developers, Capacity Certification team, executive team, neighborhood groups, etc.  The Modeler will utilize the most current InfoWorks ICM models as supplied by the PMST.  This position will be working directly with City of Atlanta and Program Management staff, supporting the City’s $4 billion Clean Water Atlanta Program, which is one of the most successful and longest running programs in the U.S.
The following are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive; this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned:
  • Use of basic hydraulics and hydrology principles in relation to collection systems
  • Use of Infoworks ICM respond to RFIs and perform other modeling tasks
  • Build and calibrate hydraulic models per the current SOPs
  • Creation of a variety of solutions/alternatives and evaluate their effectiveness
  • Use of MS Office Suite, particularly Access and Excel for spreadsheet data collection, management, analysis and presentation of model results
  • Use of GIS software package to provide geographical reference in analysis as well as presentation of model results.
  • Response to RFIs, effectively communicating verbally and in writing
  • Field work, use available sewer maps to track and locate existing un-mapped sewer lines and manholes, and evaluation of storm and sanitary sewer systems
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
EXPERIENCE: 7-10 years, with collection system hydraulics experience
In addition to the minimum qualifications above, the ideal candidate would also possess some or all of the following experience or qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • Professional engineering (PE) registration or EIT
  • Extensive knowledge of sewer system hydraulics under pressurized and free flow conditions
  • Experience building and calibration of collection system models
  • Experience in design alternative analysis and solution modeling
  • Good engineering and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of Geographical information Systems (GIS)
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Professional) and in areas of data and database management
  • Strong presentation, report writing and communications skills
  • Ability to read a sewer maps, locate sewer basins, sewersheds and track sewer pipes from point of origin to the WRC
  • Strong foundation of hydraulic engineering principles
  • Understanding of the model calibration and design criteria
