The Senior Manager, EHS will oversee all EHS related activities for both the NY and Ohio locations. Primary responsibilities will include preparation of all Federal, State, and Local permitting and filings, safety and health related initiatives including follow-up and mitigation of accidents and work-related health issues. Directing proactive activities to ensure a safe and employee friendly work environment. The incumbent will oversee EHS training, medical surveillance programs, and local safety committees to ensure compliance and corrective actions have been implemented. This position will oversee a staff of EHS professionals across both locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary point of contact for EHS requirements and activities for NY and Ohio. Communicate EHS needs and metrics to the Executive Management Team.
In coordination management, supports the development of Health and Safety standards, policies and procedures, and priorities and goals.
Monitors OSHA requirements and other industry statistics to ensure continued compliance with all applicable procedures and policies, and provides relevant and timely updates to the organization.
Ensure accidents, injuries, near misses/good catches, and other events are captured and the data is managed and reported.
Participate in both sites, as needed, to lead or support investigations of serious safety events, the analysis of root cause(s), responds to emergencies, hot-line emergency calls, investigates and tracks accidents and analyzes trends to identify corrective actions, prepares communications to share the lessons learned from such events and provides incident alerts as required.
Serves as a First Responder on chemical spill/release incidents as may be required.
Designs implements and delivers training for Health and Safety across the organization.
Updates regulated segment Health and Safety Manuals, Emergency Action Plans, Business Continuity Plans and Emergency Response Plans and work to ensure all Health and Safety Manuals are aligned and updated annually.
Works with Engineering and contractors, as needed, and reviews design drawings and cap ex-work to engineer out hazards to ensure both employees and all 3rd party contractors comply with company EHS standards.
Serves as subject matter expert and provides guidance and assistance in interpreting and complying with the existing and proposed environment, safety and security rules and regulations.
Supervises and serves as a mentor/resource for segment environmental, health, safety and security managers and specialists.
Participate in all EHS audits, at both locations, as requested and required.
Assists HR as it pertains to effectively managing injury claims.
Serves as a resource to all employees in the Health & Safety discipline (i.e. OSHA regulations, State Regulations, LOTO, Risk Assessments, Confined Space, Emergency Response Plans), safety training, and EHS programs and policies.
Qualifications and Requirements
Degree in safety management, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or relevant field.
5+ years of safety experience in environmental compliance, manufacturing and/or R&D environment, federal or state occupational, safety or health regulatory experience preferred.
Minimum 3 years of management/supervisory experience
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or other relevant professional certifications a plus.
Proven record of success with project management skills for balancing multi-site activities.
In depth knowledge of fire/life safety, business continuity, OSHA and EPA regulations.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and client relationship management skills.
Ability to interact effectively with employees, managers, regulatory agencies, public officials, customers and the general public.
A proven record of making presentations and providing effective training.
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
An understanding of computer applications is essential.
Occasional travel mainly between NY and Ohio, including day trips and some overnight stays.
