Job Responsibility:

1.      Under general supervision, manages environmental engineering projects by analyzing project scope and determining project specifications, establishing test programs for product investigations, analyzing test programs, examining samples for compliance to applicable standards and preparing reports for clients.

2.      Analyzes project specifications such as time, audit, test and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data and product construction.

3.      Assists in the development of UL Environment requirements and test methods.

4.      Act as the primary client interface and responsible for the entire project execution.  Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL Environment procedures and requirements, and negotiate project plans.  Acts to address client concerns and to resolve client issues.

5.      Manages client projects from beginning to end by obtaining necessary information from the client, coordinating project testing with the appropriate laboratories, communicating with environmental experts, and ultimately being accountable for meeting and exceeding project milestones and client expectations.

6.      Evaluates products to determine compliance with environmental standards.  This includes examining the product, reviewing product and manufacturing documentation, preparing test information for laboratories, evaluating test results, and preparing checklists for on-site audits of manufacturers.

7.      Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.  Constantly strives to exceed customer expectations.

8.      Performs research on various product categories to understand environmental impacts, major manufacturing processes, typical material uses and other aspects of manufacturing for different industries.

9.      Other duties as required

Required Skills: 

  • University Degree (Bachelor's degree) in Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field. 
  • Two years prior experience working in the appliance industry or working directly with different types of commercial and/or home appliances (refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, clothes washers, clothes dryers, cooking equipment) is required.
  • Prior project management and direct client interface experience preferred
  • Ability to understand technical environmental concepts, such as test methods and material data

Knowledge or experience with one or combination of the following is preferred:

·        Energy Efficiency – Energy Star, CEC, NRCan, EuP and/or others

·        Restricted, Toxic or Hazardous Substances

·        End of Life Management and Appliance Recycling
